Charlie Craddock, pressman, is at the back of the room. Standing in front of the press are Ada Adams and Callie Carter. At the right are Port McCorcle and Hettie McCorcle. The Killeen Herald was founded in June 1890 by W.E. Bennett with first location somewhere on southside of Avenue D between 6th (Gray) and 4th Streets. The paper was sold in 1893 and 1900, with Bennett buying the paper back in 1903. Also, in 1903, a fire almost completely destroyed the business. Bennett operated the business as a daily (The Daily Herald) for a period of one year, but in 1904 the paper again became a weekly and returned to the name of The Herald. In 1907 the paper was sold to W.T. (William Thomas) Carter who owned the business for 42 years. In the 1930s the paper was located on the SW corner of Ave C and 6th (Gray) Street. In the early 1950s the paper was located at 110 W. Avenue D. In 1953 the paper became a daily paper (The Killeen Daily Herald) and was sold to Frank Mayburn. A weekly edition was also published. In 1962, the paper moved to the SE corner of 2nd Street and Avenue A. In 1969, Sundays were added and the weekly edition was eliminated.
